Soundgarden has finished work on its final album featuring Chris Cornell’s voice after resolving a legal dispute over royalties and recordings with his estate and wife, Vicky Cornell. The band is set to perform at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This special event will bring together both old and new members on stage. Drummer Matt Cameron, guitarist Kim Thayil, current bassist Ben Shepherd, and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto will all take part in the performance.
Joining them will be Brandi Carlile, Nancy Wilson from Heart, Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains, Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, and Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless. Brandi Carlile previously sang at the 2019 Chris Cornell tribute concert, showing her strong connection to the band. Other performers at the ceremony will include Bad Company, The White Stripes, and OutKast. Fans can catch the ceremony streaming on Disney+.
Cameron shared his thoughts on the induction, saying, “It’s bittersweet that he’s not here with us. I think Chris would have really enjoyed this moment of recognition.” He added that Cornell’s impact on music has been huge. Guitarist Kim Thayil also expressed pride in the band’s achievements, noting the importance of Seattle’s culture to their music.
Cornell passed away in May 2017 at the age of 52. The recordings for the new album were completed before his death and represent the last material the band created together. However, Soundgarden has not yet announced a release date for the album.
