Staind released “Ghosts” on October 14, marking its first new single since its 2023 album Confessions of the Fallen. Released through Alchemy Recordings/BMG, “Ghosts” also signals the beginning of another chapter for the Massachusetts rockers.
Staind Brings Its Signature Sound to “Ghosts”
In an Instagram post, vocalist Aaron Lewis, guitarist Mike Mushok, bassist Johnny April, and drummer Sal Giancarelli announced that their latest single, “Ghost”, has already dropped with an accompanying music video.
The track sounds familiar enough to remind longtime Staind fans of the band’s signature vibe, while still offering something new.
According to Mushok, “Ghosts” came together remarkably quickly during a writing trip to Nashville with producer Erik Ron.
“We went down to Nashville for a writing trip with Erik,” the guitarist explained. “We had gotten together, and I came up with the riff on the spot. From there, Erik and I put the track together in just one day and finished it up. Aaron listened to it a little later and did this really great vocal over it. ‘Ghosts’ ended up being a very dynamic song.”
Ron has previously worked with rock acts including Godsmack, Bad Omens, and Papa Roach.
Lewis also admitted that the song surprised the band.
“It’s a little different, and it surprised all of us,” he said. “It’s got some heavy elements, but it’s certainly melodic too. It’s definitely Staind.”
“Ghosts” Marks Staind’s First New Music Since 2023
The new single follows Confessions of the Fallen, which arrived in September 2023, after the band’s self-titled 2011 album. Confessions of the Fallen introduced “Lowest in Me,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Active Rock chart.
Now, “Ghosts” gives the band another opportunity to build on that momentum.
The release arrives during a major anniversary year for Staind.
The band is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Break the Cycle, its breakthrough 2001 album. The record reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned 7x Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
Staind will continue celebrating Break the Cycle with another North American tour leg in 2027.
The 27-city run will begin in Manchester, New Hampshire, on March 6 and conclude in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 16. Seether and Hoobastank will join the band as special guests, while Hinder will appear on every date except the Cleveland show.
