Starstruck Moments with Emily Saliers: Exploring the Universe of Music and Inspiration

Marisa Magnatta has been buzzing about the Lilith Fair documentary on air. This film highlights the iconic concert tour from the late ’90s that celebrated all-female musical acts. One of those standout acts was the Indigo Girls. Recently, Emily Saliers, one half of the duo, visited The Preston & Steve Show to promote a new musical for which she wrote the music. The show will run at the Bucks County Playhouse until March 21, 2026. Emily is excited about the musical and plans to attend as many performances as she can.

With Emily in the studio, the hosts asked her about her experiences at Lilith Fair and the documentary. She shared how incredible it was and mentioned some of the artists they performed with. The Indigo Girls agreed to be part of the documentary only if it focused on the sense of community within the music world. Emily also talked about her personal musical hero, Joni Mitchell. She recalled a memorable moment when a famous friend took her to Joni’s house, where Joni complimented her music. This was especially meaningful for Emily, who had written a letter to Joni at 14, expressing her admiration.

Preston also shared his love for the Indigo Girls, particularly their hit song “Galileo.” Emily revealed the story behind that song, including the night that inspired it. She even surprised everyone by mentioning a legendary rock singer who makes a brief appearance at the end of the song. Fans of the Indigo Girls and music lovers alike will appreciate these insights into Emily’s journey and the magic of their music.
