Steve Albini’s gold record for Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’ from Indonesia is up for auction.

A Gold record awarded to the late Steve Albini for his work on Nirvana’s 1993 album “In Utero” is set to go up for auction. This award is unique because it recognizes the album going Gold in Indonesia, not through the RIAA.

When Albini received his RIAA Gold Record Award, he returned it to the band’s management due to his beliefs about major labels. Later, he asked for it back, but it was no longer available, and the details of what happened to it remain unclear. Instead, he received the Indonesian Gold Record Award for “In Utero,” which became the only souvenir of the multi-platinum album in his collection.

This award is now being auctioned on SteveAlbinisCloset.com, a site created after Albini’s passing in 2024. The auction will be conducted as a blind auction. Interested bidders can email auction@stevealbiniscloset.com with “NIRVANA” and their bid amount in the subject line. The auction ends on May 3 at 4:30 p.m. ET, and the minimum bid starts at $5,000. This could be a great addition for any Nirvana fan’s collection!
