Steve Harris Discusses Love for Live Performing and Balancing Iron Maiden with British Lion

The bassist reflected on playing small clubs with his side project alongside Iron Maiden’s large venue shows.

In an interview with Charlie Bahama, Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris opened up about his ongoing passion for performing live and how he manages his time between Iron Maiden and his side project, British Lion. Responding to the notion that he rarely rests, Harris explained that while there is a time and place for rest, his primary motivation is his deep love for playing live music for audiences.

British Lion was formed 14 years ago to revive songwriting material Harris worked on with other musicians during the 1990s. Due to Harris’ commitments to Iron Maiden, British Lion has released two studio albums. Performing with the side project allows Harris to play in intimate clubs—such as the Milky Way in Amsterdam—giving him the chance to perform in smaller venues that contrast with the massive arenas and stadiums routinely played by Iron Maiden.
