Sting Shares New Song, ‘I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)’

Sting has shared a new song, “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart).” He recorded the new song with his three-piece trio, STING 3.0: Dominic Miller on guitar, Chris Maas on drums and Martin Kierszenbaum on organ.

“I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” builds off of the time-honored “Bo Diddley beat,” named for its prominence on Diddley’s 1955 self-titled single. The rhythm, a classic 3-2 clave with West African origins, has been called “The Rhythm that Conquered the World” by computer scientist Dr. Godfried Toussaint.

The 17-time Grammy Award-winning artist’s latest track also arrives with an accompanying music video. The video pairs the track with photo and video footage of Sting performing live, a sly teaser for his upcoming tour with STING 3.0, which will kick off on September 17th and 18th with back-to-back nights at Detroit’s Fillmore Theatre. After visiting Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston, Brooklyn, Port Chester, DC, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, and San Francisco, the tour will conclude in true Hollywood style with two November nights at Los Angeles’ Wiltern.

Sting shared his most recent album of new music, The Bridge, in 2021. Last year, he also celebrated the 30th anniversary of his record Ten Summoners Tales with an expanded edition, featuring previously unreleased alternate track versions, remixes, and live performances from locations like Newcastle, the Netherlands, and Codroipo, Italy.

In 2024, Sting also helped compose new renditions of some of his most famous songs with The Police for the dance show “Message in a Bottle,” which explores a family seeking asylum amid a refugee crisis. The show premiered in 2020 in London, before stopping in New York City for a two-week limited engagement in May 2024.

Listen to Sting’s “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” now.
