Digital Noise Mag attended the co-headline tour of American rock band Evanescence as well as gifted violinist Lindsey Stirling, at bb&t Pavilion in Camden, NJ. on Tuesday July 17th. To start off the night was the classical/modern duo Cellogram with cellist Dave Eggar and percussionist Chuck Palmer. The two created a set list ranging from rock to country, providing an outstanding performance.
After a short break, Evanescence than took the stage with lead singer/songwriter & pianist Amy Lee with support of a full symphony orchestra live on stage. The band began the night with the song “Overture” leading into “Never Go Back” which was released in 2011 on their self-titled album. Lee then headed to the mic where she continued to belt the beautiful lyrics from the bands hits such as; “Lacrymosa”, “End of the Dream”, “My Heart Is Broken”, and lastly “Lithium” which are found on the more recent album Synthesis. Which was released in 2017 includes reworked versions of some of the bands more popular but older material but this time with an orchestra arrangement adding electronica music elements for a more modern feel. The orchestra then lead us into the classic hit “Bring Me to Life” but instead of the original hard-rock version, the band decided to start the song with a more mellow approach really showing off Lee’s spectacular vocals, which left the crowd absolutely speechless. Evanescence went on and performed, “Across the Universe” a well-known Beatles hit from the 1970s, with their own instrumental take to this classic rock cover. Soon after Lindsey Stirling joins Evanescence on stage to perform the new release/remake of their 2003 hit “Hi-Lo”. Later in the night towards the end of their set, Amy Lee speaks out to the audience appreciating the support, thanking by making this experience so real & meaningful after everything that they have been through together. Dedicating the next performance of the number hit “My Immortal”, in which she said to the fans “this is for you”.
Last but certainly not least the talented violinist, Lindsey Stirling, takes the stage with a voice-over about all the critics and doubt she had faced in her upcoming, along with the full symphony orchestra playing along with the clip on the back-screen. A few minutes later the venue became dark then lights flash on, music began and Stirling rose up from under, to center stage playing her hit “The Arena” off of her album, Brave Enough. The energetic performer Stirling smiling from ear to ear from that moment took the stage by storm, putting on the show of her life, by ranging her skills from ballet to hip-hop. Throughout the performance she played some of her biggest hits along with set changes, costume changes although the heat didn’t stop her there, she completed her set with a visual show on the back-screens that captivated the audience as she played the sweet sounds of the violin. Later in the night Stirling executed a beautiful speech prior to her performance of “First Light” in which she spoke about her past and how she allowed her depression to consume her, acknowledged that she’s not broken and deserved happiness. She went on about how happiness is about finding the light within yourself, because no one is ever really broken we just allow ourselves to feel that way. The song was written about finding that inner light and learning how to let it grow. Ending the show with Evanescence singer Amy Lee doing a Lana Del Rey cover of “Young and Beautiful” leaving the audience at loss for words with a standing ovation.
