Sublime Set to Release First Album in 30 Years Featuring Jakob Nowell as Lead Vocalist

Sublime is set to release their new album, *Until the Sun Explodes*, on June 12 through Atlantic Records. This will be the band’s first album since their self-titled release in 1996. The record features Jakob Nowell, the son of the late lead singer Bradley Nowell, along with founding members Bud Gaugh on drums and Eric Wilson on bass.

The 21-track album includes guest appearances from H.R. of Bad Brains, Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise, G. Love, FIDLAR, and Skegss. The title track has already been released as a single, and a music video was filmed at iconic Long Beach locations tied to the band’s history.

Jakob Nowell shared his thoughts on the album, saying, “There’s no replacing history, period. *Until the Sun Explodes* is an epilogue, and ‘Until the Sun Explodes’ the single is the epilogue to the epilogue. It’s a tribute to my father and a thank you for everything he’s done for me.”

Sublime formed in 1988 and released their self-titled album in July 1996. Tragically, Bradley Nowell passed away just two months before its release. That album sold five million copies and featured hits like “What I Got.” Jakob first performed with Gaugh and Wilson at a benefit show in 2023.

The band recorded over 20 songs in two months at a studio in San Pedro, with producer John Joseph at the helm. Gaugh noted that the album came together naturally, without forced compositions.

Sublime will perform their 1996 self-titled album in full at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on April 17 and 18. Their Me Gusta touring festival kicks off on May 9 in Fort Worth, Texas, with stops in Portland and Salt Lake City. Plus, a Sublime Reef Madness cruise will set sail from Miami in November.
