The RIAA issued multiple new certifications for the band’s second album, ‘Toxicity,’ and its tracks ahead of its 25th anniversary.
System of a Down earned their first RIAA diamond-certified single in the United States on Friday, Aug. 28, as “Chop Suey!” reached 10x platinum status. According to the Nu-Metal Agenda, the milestone accounts for 10 million units sold through a combination of purchases and streaming. The track, which surpassed two billion lifetime streams in May and was last certified 5x platinum in July 2022, was bolstered over the years by its inclusion in trailers and on the setlist for Rock Band 2.
The Recording Industry Association of America also awarded several fresh certifications tied to the Armenian-American band’s second album, Toxicity, just ahead of its 25th anniversary on Sept. 4. The album itself climbed to 7x platinum status, while the title track reached 6x platinum. Additionally, “Aerials” hit 4x platinum, “Prison Song” achieved platinum status, and five other tracks from the record went gold.
