Taylor Swift is celebrating the summer with a big achievement: her 2019 hit “Cruel Summer” has just surpassed three billion streams on Spotify. This makes it one of the few songs to reach that milestone.
Originally a fan favorite from her album *Lover*, “Cruel Summer” has had an exciting journey. During a concert in Pittsburgh in 2023, Swift announced that the song would finally be released as a single, four years after its debut. She shared how much the song means to her, saying, “‘Cruel Summer’—that song was my pride and joy on that album. That was my favorite song.”
In appreciation of her fans, Swift released two new versions of the song. She expressed her gratitude on Instagram, saying, “What a truly mind-blowing thing you’ve turned The Eras Tour Concert Film into.” She loved seeing fans enjoying the film, dancing, and creating memories.
Swift also mentioned how the support for “Cruel Summer” led her to start The Eras Tour with it. To celebrate, she released the live audio from the tour and a new remix by @lpgiobbi.
“Cruel Summer” is now one of 18 songs by Swift in the Spotify Billions Club. The latest addition, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version),” joined the club in April.
