The album ‘Marrow Deep’ by Mastodon includes contributions from Black Sabbath’s Geezer Butler, along with other guest appearances.

Mastodon’s new album Marrow Deep features a string of high-profile guests. The band already released the single “Snakes for Dinner” with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme. Now they say the record also includes Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier, Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe and Clutch’s Neil Fallon, who sang on Mastodon’s earlier hit “Blood and Thunder.”

Drummer and vocalist Brann Dailor called working with Butler especially meaningful. His mother was a big fan of Butler, and Dailor says having him on the record felt like a pinch-me moment. Dailor’s mother died in February 2025.

The band has been through a hard year. Founding guitarist Brent Hinds left in March 2025 and died in a motorcycle crash in August 2025. Bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders says the band will always honor Hinds’ role in Mastodon. He adds that the group wants to keep making music and move forward.

Marrow Deep is due Aug. 28. Mastodon will start a U.S. tour in September.
