The Cult to Pause Touring After 40th Anniversary, Focuses on New Projects and Creative Refresh

After their final show at The Shrine in Los Angeles on October 30, British band The Cult will take a break from live performances. Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy announced on social media, “After the remaining dates on our North American The Cult/Death Cult 8525 Tour, we’ve decided to step away from touring for an undetermined time. We’ve toured a lot in recent years, and now we want to focus on writing, recording new music, and exploring other projects.”

The band emphasized that this break isn’t permanent. “When we return to the stage, it will be with even more fire and energy to share with you. Our bond with you is strong, and it’s just on pause,” they wrote.

The Cult started as Death Cult in 1983 and changed their name the following year. They have released 11 studio albums, beginning with Dreamtime. Their latest album, Under the Midnight Sun, came out in 2022. Duffy shared, “It’s been a wonderful three years celebrating our music with The Cult family around the world. Now, it’s time to go home, spend time with our families, and create new music.”

The band had their biggest U.S. hits in 1989. “Fire Woman” peaked at No. 46, and “Edie (Ciao Baby)” reached No. 93 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their standout album, Sonic Temple, climbed to No. 10 on the Billboard 200.

The current tour started in Las Vegas on October 24 to celebrate their 40th anniversary. They also performed in Phoenix, San Francisco, and Del Mar. Fans can look forward to their next album, Paradise Live, which is set to debut in early 2026.
