The Cure’s next album is getting closer with the release of “A Fragile Thing.” The song is the second single off their upcoming album Songs Of A Lost World, the band’s first full-length project in 16 years. The album will be officially released on November 1 on vinyl, cassette, CD, deluxe CD and Blu-Ray, and digital.
“‘A Fragile Thing’ is driven by the difficulties we face in choosing between mutually exclusive needs and how we deal with the futile regret that can follow these choices, however sure we are that the right choices have been made…” singer, guitarist, and songwriter Robert Smith expressed in a statement. “It can often be very hard to be the person that you really need to be.”
While Songs Of A Lost World is the band’s first album since 2008’s 4:13 Dream, they’ve been hard at work in the years since. Last year, the band embarked on their Shows Of A Lost World Tour, where they previewed many of the tracks that will be available on the album. Smith confirmed the album all the way back in 2022, actually explaining that the band has two albums coming. “Well the first Cure album is relentless doom and gloom. It’s the doomiest thing that we’ve ever done. The second one is upbeat…” he told NME. “I’d rather it just came out. I can’t stand the anticipation.”
In 2019, the Cure was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, more than 40 years after they first formed in Crawley, England. Over the course of their career, they’ve released 13 albums, many of which have come to be known as classics of the new wave and goth rock genres. While 1989’s “Lovesong” is their highest-charting single in the United States, peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, they have countless tracks beloved not only by fans but appreciators of music across the globe.
