A restored 4K version of The Doors’ GRAMMY-winning film, *When You’re Strange*, is hitting theaters on December 4 and 6. This special screening features a re-recorded version of “Riders on the Storm,” with John Densmore and Robby Krieger joining in. The event kicks off with new messages from the two surviving band members, followed by the worldwide premiere of the updated “Riders on the Storm,” featuring special guests in collaboration with the Playing for Change music project.
Directed by Tom DiCillo and narrated by Johnny Depp, the film showcases never-before-seen footage of the band from their beginnings in 1965 until Jim Morrison’s death in 1971. The new version of “Riders on the Storm” opens with beats from the Lakota Drum Group, marking a significant milestone for Playing for Change. Proceeds from this project will help build their first U.S. music school, aimed at teaching Native American youth.
The Doors skyrocketed to fame with hits like “Light My Fire.” They released six albums and sold over 100 million records. Their accolades include induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, a GRAMMY for lifetime achievement, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007.
As the band celebrates its 60th anniversary, this film highlights how Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Krieger, and Densmore transformed music forever. Their story won the GRAMMY for Best Long Form Video in 2009.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, October 30, at 9 a.m. ET, and the film will be shown in 15,000 theaters worldwide. Don’t miss this chance to experience The Doors like never before!
