The Economic Influence of Back To The Beginning on Birmingham, England

The total amount raised for charity by the Back To The Beginning concert is still being calculated, but new figures show it had a big impact on the local economy in Birmingham, England. The University of Birmingham reported that the concert, which featured the final performance of the original Black Sabbath lineup, generated £33.8 million (about $45.72 million USD) in gross economic output in the UK. Out of that, £27.6 million (around $37.33 million USD) stayed in the West Midlands area.

Dr. Matt Lyons from the University of Birmingham commented, “We wanted to honor Ozzy’s legacy by estimating the economic impact of his last gig. Ozzy is a global legend, and his incredible music will continue to benefit his home city for years to come.”

As for the charity aspect, Tom Morello, the musical director for Back To The Beginning, shared on Instagram that the event raised over $190 million, making it the highest-grossing charity concert ever. However, Sharon Osbourne expressed concern about the varying reports on the amount raised. She said, “I wish we could have made $140 million for one gig. It’s just ridiculous how these numbers keep changing. I saw figures like $140 million and $160 million online, and I’m wondering where they come from.”

Sharon didn’t have a final number during her interview, explaining that it takes time to sort through expenses from all the bands and merchandise sales. She mentioned, “It’ll take about six weeks to get the final number since we’re still selling merch for another two weeks.” Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the official total, but the excitement around the event is undeniable!
