Alt-J frontman Joe Newman says it felt huge to hear his music in the newest Spider-Man film.
Back in 2016, Tom Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Now, a decade later, Holland stars in his fourth solo movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Alt-J’s music is part of that soundtrack.
“It wasn’t until I was at the premiere where I was like, ‘Ah s*, this is f cool,'” Newman says. “I mean, this is huge.” He says seeing Holland introduced as the new Spider-Man felt exciting.
Newman credits the band’s surprise hit “Left Hand Free” with playing a big role in that legacy. “Left Hand Free has been really good to us,” he says. “It’s the quickest song we wrote. It took 25 minutes. It’s the song that sounds least like us, and it’s been our most successful song.” He calls the film placement the biggest achievement for that track.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters. Newman also has a new solo album out called The Canyon, released under the name JJerome87.
