The Mars Volta Begins Recording Tenth Album with Producer Sylvia Massy

The Mars Volta is back in the studio working on their tenth album with producer Sylvia Massy. Core members Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala teamed up with Massy just before her social media announcement on November 26. Massy is known for her work with big names like Tool and System Of A Down. The band also brought in their trusted engineer, Jon DeBaun, to handle the recording.

Omar plays guitar, sings, and programs, while Cedric is the frontman. So far, there’s no word on the album’s style or release date. This marks their first studio session since releasing their ninth album, *Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos Del Vacio*, earlier this year. That album faced some tough challenges, including an online leak before its official release, and it didn’t get much attention when it dropped in April.

The Mars Volta is known for pushing the boundaries of prog rock. They mix different sounds into complex compositions that really make you think. Massy met with the band in late November, but it’s still unclear when recording will wrap up or when fans can expect new music. The duo hasn’t shared any details about other musicians who might join them on this record. In the past, they’ve had a rotating cast of players around them.

This will be Massy’s first time working with The Mars Volta, even though she has a long history of producing rock and metal acts. The label for the new album hasn’t been announced yet, and details like song titles, track order, and cover art are still under wraps. Fans will have to stay tuned for more updates!
