The Smashing Pumpkins are set to release a vinyl reissue of their 1991 debut album, “Gish,” to celebrate its 35th anniversary. This special edition will be available at select retailers and at Billy Corgan’s Madame ZuZu’s tea shop in Highland Park, Illinois. Fans can choose from a limited-edition gray vinyl with pink and purple splatter or a standard black vinyl.
“Gish” features iconic singles like “I Am One” and “Siva” and has been certified Platinum. The album still feels like a hidden gem. Before the band became famous with “Siamese Dream” and “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” they released this hazy and heavy debut. “Gish” doesn’t shine with polish; instead, it hums and swirls, embracing feedback and allowing the songs to breathe.
What keeps “Gish” alive is its mix of beauty and power. “Rhinoceros” starts off softly, then builds into something huge and emotional. “Siva” hits hard, but Billy Corgan focuses on feeling rather than just volume. The guitars are layered but not overly polished, creating a sense of space and air. You can hear the ambition forming in real time.
This album captures a band on the brink of greatness—hungry, searching, and a bit rough around the edges. “Gish” resonates because it sounds like possibility. It’s not the fully formed empire we know today, but a moment when everything felt raw and open. Fans of The Smashing Pumpkins will definitely want to check out this reissue!
