The Weeknd has added two new RIAA Diamond certifications to his roster, bringing his grand total to seven Diamond-Certified singles. Two of his biggest hits, “Save Your Tears” and “Die For You,” have officially reached Diamond status, defined as songs and albums that have shifted at least 10 million equivalent units across sales and streaming activity. With this achievement, The Weeknd makes history as the first Canadian artist to score seven RIAA diamond certifications and the third overall artist to score seven RIAA diamond certifications.
Additionally, The Weeknd also received platinum certifications for his 2023 hits “Popular,” with Madonna & Playboi Carti, and “One of the Girls,” with JENNIE & Lily-Rose Depp. The certification is history-making for JENNIE, who has now become the first female K-Pop soloist to earn a platinum single from the RIAA. “One of the Girls” is additionally Lily-Rose Depp’s first Platinum Certification. “Popular” also stands out as Madonna’s first platinum single since “4 Minutes.”
Both songs are from the HBO drama series The Idol, which was created by The Weeknd along with Euphoria’s Sam Levinson.
Alongside the new additions of “Save Your Tears” and “Die For You,” The Weeknd’s platinum singles include “Earned It,” “Blinding Lights,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “The Hills” and “Starboy,” the latter two of which have been certified as 11-times platinum.
Post Malone is currently the artist with the most RIAA Diamond-certified singles: boasting nine tracks with the achievement. His track “Sunflower” with Swae Lee recently broke records by becoming the first song in history to go double-diamond, or 20x platinum. The Weeknd is currently tied for second place with Rihanna, followed by Drake and Bruno Mars tied for third.
