The Weeknd Shares Surreal ‘São Paulo’ Video Featuring Anitta

It’s the spookiest time of the year, and The Weeknd is celebrating with a new video that you’ll never unsee. The surreal video accompanies his new track, “São Paulo” featuring Brazilian superstar Anitta.

The video starts with an eerily masked, pregnant Anitta strutting down the street. When she appears to go into labor, instead of a baby we see The Weeknd’s mouth grow onto her stomach, as he proceeds to sing the track. The video was directed by FREEKA and choreographed by Monica Mirabile.

Anitta teased the video’s theme with a strange, fake sonogram on social media. “Isn’t he beautiful?” she asked of the many-toothed, tailed creature in the photo.

The Weeknd and Anitta performed “São Paulo” for the first time at the singer’s one-night-only concert event in the Brazilian city of the same name. That concert was streamed to millions on YouTube, and proceeds from the event’s merchandise benefited the Brazilian Soul Fund of BrazilFoundation, supporting communities facing natural and economic challenges in Brazil.

“São Paulo” is the latest single off his upcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow, described as the third installment in the trilogy that includes his records After Hours and Dawn FM.

He has previously shared two singles, “Dancing in the Flames” and “Timeless” featuring Playboi Carti, from the album.

The Weeknd recently surpassed his own record as the artist with the highest monthly listeners on Spotify, with over 120 million monthly listeners. Back in June, he made news when he received his seventh Diamond-Certified single, which made him the first Canadian artist to score seven RIAA diamond certifications and the third overall artist to score seven RIAA diamond certifications.

Alongside the new additions of “Save Your Tears” and “Die For You,” The Weeknd’s platinum singles include “Earned It,” “Blinding Lights,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “The Hills” and “Starboy,” the latter two of which have been certified as 11-times platinum.
