The Who’s Iconic Album ‘Who Are You’ to Receive Super Deluxe Reissue

The Who’s eighth studio album, *Who Are You*, is set to be released in various formats, including a super deluxe edition on October 31. This new edition features over 70 unreleased tracks, including never-before-heard versions of the title track and newly mixed live recordings from the band’s first tour without original drummer Keith Moon. It also includes candid rehearsal recordings from 1977 and 1978. The 7CD/1 Blu-ray set will have brand-new Atmos and Stereo mixes by Steven Wilson. Other formats include a deluxe 4LP box set, a 2CD deluxe edition, and limited-edition colored and half-speed master vinyl.

Originally released in August 1978, *Who Are You* was a major success, reaching No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and achieving double platinum status. Sadly, it was the last album featuring Keith Moon, who passed away just a week after its release. The album showcased The Who’s evolution, with songs influenced by the rising punk scene. The title track was inspired by a night out with members of The Sex Pistols.

The recording process was challenging, but the super deluxe edition reveals the full story, including the rejected original mix by Glyn Johns and a remastered version of the released mix. It also features unreleased demos and alternate takes, including a previously lost guitar solo from “Sister Disco.”

In 1978, excitement for a supporting tour was high, but Moon’s death halted those plans. The band later introduced new drummer Kenney Jones in May 1979. A highlight of the super deluxe edition is the newly mixed live recordings from the 1979 U.S. tour, capturing The Who in a clear and engaging style.
