The Pretty Reckless has released its fifth album, Dear God. Frontwoman Taylor Momsen says the band has “touched upon something incredibly special.”
The album uses religious images. Momsen says she is not very religious. She calls the idea of God on the record “grander than religion.” “Don’t crucify me for saying that,” she jokes. She calls the album a collection of confessions from her life.
Songs dig into different parts of Momsen’s past. “When I Wake Up” looks back at hard-partying days. In “Love Me,” she asks, “Why doesn’t anyone love me?” On “Eye of the Storm,” she admits feelings she often hides. “Tell the band I’m doing fine,” she sings. Momsen says the band is her chosen family. Still, personal struggles aren’t always shared, even with people you love.
The Pretty Reckless will start a U.S. headline tour for Dear God on July 10 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The tour also includes dates opening for AC/DC.
