Celebrate Philly’s first art school at PAFA’s Firstival. When: Sat., July 25, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Where: Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 118–128 N. Broad St. Cost: Free. The event honors PAFA’s role in American art since 1805 and features a commemorative sculpture by muralist Jonathan Laidacker, a PAFA alum who’s painted more than 70 murals across the city.
Make the World Better Concert Weekend brings indie rock to The Dell. When: Fri.–Sat., July 24–25, 7 p.m. Where: Fairmount Park, The Dell Music Center. Tickets from $30. Friday’s headliner is Pavement with Ratboys. Saturday features Kurt Vile & The Violators, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, and Twisted Teens. Single-day and weekend passes available; proceeds benefit Make The World Better.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in Concert with The Philadelphia Orchestra. When: Fri., July 24, 8 p.m. Where: Highmark Mann Pavilion, 5201 Parkside Ave. Tickets from $43. Hear John Williams’ score live as the film plays on three giant screens. Conductor Damon Gupton leads the orchestra. All ages welcome — pack a picnic and bring a lawn chair or small blanket.
