Dec. 14 has been a big day in rock history over the years. It marks key moments for bands like The Rolling Stones, The Clash, and for artists like Paul McCartney. Here are some highlights from this day.
In 1962, bass player Bill Wyman made his debut with The Rolling Stones at the Ricky Tick Club in Windsor, England. He had just auditioned the week before and would stay with the band until 1993.
Fast forward to 1969, and The Jackson 5 made their national TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show. They performed several songs, including their hit “I Want You Back.” This performance is often seen as the moment young Michael Jackson began to shine.
In 2003, Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne’s duet “Changes” hit number one on the U.K. singles chart. This remake of a classic Black Sabbath song made them the first father-daughter duo to top the U.K. charts since Frank and Nancy Sinatra in 1967.
Dec. 14 is also known for some famous album releases. In 1979, The Clash released their third album, *London Calling*, in the U.K. It received rave reviews and has sold over 5 million copies worldwide.
Then in 1999, Paul McCartney played at the Cavern Club in Liverpool for the first time since his Beatles days in 1963. This special show featured a star-studded band, including David Gilmour from Pink Floyd and Ian Paice from Deep Purple.
