This Day in Rock History: July 30

July 30 is a significant day in rock history, filled with important moments, birthdays, and concerts. Let’s take a look at what happened on this day.

Breakthrough Hits and Milestones
This date has seen some major milestones for rock legends. In 1966, The Troggs’ hit “Wild Thing” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was a big deal for the band, as it was the only song to top the chart while being released by two record labels at the same time due to a contract dispute. Fast forward to 2002, Bruce Springsteen released his 12th studio album, *The Rising*. It received rave reviews and won a GRAMMY for Best Rock Album the following year.

Cultural Milestones
July 30 also marks the birthdays of some rock icons. In 1936, blues legend Buddy Guy was born in Lettsworth, Louisiana. His Chicago blues style has influenced many greats like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. At 89, he’s still active and has a new album, *Ain’t Done With The Blues*, coming out soon. In 1941, Canadian-American singer Paul Anka was born in Ottawa. He started his career young and is known for hits like “Diana” and for writing “My Way” for Frank Sinatra.

Notable Recordings and Performances
On this day in 1955, Johnny Cash recorded “Folsom Prison Blues” in Memphis. He later performed it live at Folsom Prison in 1968. In 2003, the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto concert took place, featuring The Rolling Stones, Rush, and AC/DC, drawing nearly half a million fans—Canada’s largest outdoor event ever.

July 30 has always been a day to remember in the rock world!
