This Day in Rock History: March 6

Eric Clapton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the third time on March 6, 2000. He is the only artist to achieve this honor three times, recognized for his work with The Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist.

March 6 has seen some significant moments in rock history. Here are a few highlights:

1958: The Everly Brothers recorded their second No. 1 hit, “All I Have To Do Is Dream.” The song was recorded live in just two takes with Chet Atkins on guitar.

1976: The Miracles topped the US Billboard Hot 100 with “Love Machine.” The song spent 28 weeks on the charts but only hit No. 1 for one week.

1976: On the same day, Led Zeppelin’s album *Physical Graffiti* was certified Gold, just over a week after its release. It later sold over 8 million copies, achieving 16x Platinum status.

1982: The Go-Go’s became the first all-girl rock band to have a No. 1 album with *Beauty and the Beat*, which stayed at the top for six weeks.

Cultural milestones also shaped rock music.

1944: Alvin Lee, guitarist and vocalist of Ten Years After, was born in Nottingham, England. He formed the band in the early 1960s.

1946: David Gilmour, guitarist and vocalist of Pink Floyd, was born in Cambridge, England. He joined the band in 1967.

1976: Even after their breakup, The Beatles had 22 of their original singles reissued by EMI Records, hitting the UK charts again.

1998: Liam Gallagher of Oasis was arrested in Brisbane for allegedly headbutting a fan during their Australian tour.

These moments have left a lasting impact on rock music today.
