This Day in Rock History: November 22

Nov. 22 is a significant day in music history, especially for fans of The Beatles and INXS. It marks the loss of INXS’s charismatic frontman, Michael Hutchence, and features some iconic album releases.

In 1997, Michael Hutchence, the lead singer and songwriter of INXS, was found dead in a Sydney hotel room at just 37 years old. The band rose to fame in 1984 with their hit “Original Sin” and enjoyed a string of international successes in the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Fast forward to 2002, when former members of The Doors, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, announced they were reuniting for a new album and world tour. They brought in Ian Astbury from The Cult to fill in for Jim Morrison and Stewart Copeland from The Police to replace John Densmore on drums due to health issues. Despite legal challenges over the band’s name, they continued until Manzarek’s passing in 2013.

Notable album releases on this day include:

In 1963, The Beatles released their second studio album, “With the Beatles,” featuring eight Lennon-McCartney songs and George Harrison’s first composition, “Don’t Bother Me.”

In 1968, they released their self-titled album, known as “The White Album.” This album is considered one of the most influential of all time and is certified 24x Platinum in the U.S.

In 1994, Pearl Jam dropped their third studio album, “Vitalogy,” which was more experimental than their earlier work and topped the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

From loss to legendary releases, Nov. 22 is a day to remember in rock history. Check back tomorrow for more music milestones!
