Nov. 30 is a big day in music history. It marks the anniversary of two legendary albums and the end of an era for one of metal’s biggest names. Here are some key events that happened on this day.

1982: Metallica played their last show with bassist Ron McGovney at the Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco. Later that year, Cliff Burton took over. McGovney returned to celebrate Metallica’s 30th anniversary with his old bandmates.

2019: Slayer performed their final show at The Forum in Inglewood, California. They ended the night with “Angel of Death” and took time to thank their fans for 38 amazing years.

Two rock legends were born on Nov. 30.

1943: Christine McVie, the keyboardist and co-vocalist of Fleetwood Mac, was born in Greenodd, England. She joined the band in 1970 and played a key role in their biggest hits.

1955: Billy Idol was born in Stanmore, England. He first gained fame as the lead singer of the punk band Generation X before launching a successful solo career in the 1980s.

In terms of major album releases, this day is unforgettable.

1979: Pink Floyd released their 11th studio album, The Wall. This concept album topped the U.S. charts for 15 weeks and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

1982: Michael Jackson dropped his sixth studio album, Thriller. Produced by Quincy Jones, it introduced rock elements to his music and became the best-selling album of all time, with around 70 million copies sold.
