This Day in Top 40 History: April 27

On April 27, 1992, Morgan Mason and Belinda Carlisle, the lead singer of The Go-Go’s, welcomed their only child, James Duke Mason, in Los Angeles. Duke is a writer whose work has appeared in major publications like The Hollywood Reporter and Huffington Post. Besides being his birthday, April 27 has seen many significant moments in Top 40 history.

In 2018, Post Malone released his second studio album, *beerbongs & bentleys*, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 400,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The album produced five Top 40 hits, including two No. 1 singles. That same year, Janelle Monáe dropped *Dirty Computer*, her fourth studio album, featuring tracks that reached the Top 40. The album peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and included guest appearances from Pharrell Williams, Zoë Kravitz, and Brian Wilson.

April 27 is also marked by notable birthdays and performances. In 1947, Pete Ham, the lead singer of Badfinger, was born in Swansea, Wales. He is known for hits like “Come and Get It.” Tragically, he died by suicide in 1975. In 1969, Joe Cocker delivered a memorable performance of Dave Mason’s “Feelin’ Alright” on the Ed Sullivan Show, building on his success from the previous year.

In 1981, Ringo Starr married Barbara Bach in a small ceremony in London, attended by fellow Beatles George Harrison and Paul McCartney. They are still together today.

On April 27, 2016, Beyoncé launched her *Formation* tour with a spectacular show in Miami, featuring over 25 songs from her album *Lemonade*. In 2024, Vampire Weekend performed at the Fair Grounds R, showcasing their fan-friendly style.
