On this day in Top 40 history, pop star Sonny Bono became a mayor and later a congressman. February 6 also marks The Eagles’ long legal battles and the beginning of The Beatles.

Breakthrough Hits and Milestones:

– 1958: George Harrison joined The Quarrymen with John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They later became The Beatles, changing rock and roll forever.
– 1982: Kraftwerk’s single “The Model/Computer Love” hit No. 1 in the UK, making them the first German band to achieve this. It stayed at the top for 21 weeks.
– 1988: Dusty Springfield teamed up with the Pet Shop Boys for a duet that reached No. 2 in both the U.S. and UK.
– 2003: 50 Cent released his debut album, *Get Rich or Die Tryin’*, featuring Eminem, Destiny’s Child, and Snoop Dogg. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and included hits like “In Da Club” and “21 Questions.”
– 2007: Bloc Party released *A Weekend in the City* in the U.S., a day after its UK launch. It produced several UK Top 40 singles.
– 2007: Fall Out Boy dropped their third album, *Infinity on High*, which topped the Billboard 200 and featured hits like “This Ain’t a Scene” and “Thnks fr th Mmrs.”
