Did you know Etta James celebrated her birthday on January 25? Born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles in 1938, she started singing young. Her big break came in 1960 when she signed with Chess Records in Chicago, leading to iconic Top 40 hits like “At Last” and “Tell Mama.”

Alicia Keys also shares this birthday. She has had at least four number-one singles on Billboard’s Hot 100, including “Fallin’” and “No One.” As of now, she has won 17 GRAMMYs.

Here are some notable music events that happened on January 25:

– 1989: N.W.A released their debut album, *Straight Outta Compton*. It sold millions and reached the Top Five on the Billboard 200. The title track peaked at No. 38 on the Hot 100.

– 1994: Alice in Chains dropped their EP, *Jar of Flies*, featuring hits like “No Excuses.” It sold over 130,000 copies in its first week and became the first EP to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

– 2000: D’Angelo released his second album, *Voodoo*, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 300,000 copies in its first week. It included the Top 40 single “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”
