Thrice has just released a new track called “Albatross” on August 25. This song is part of their upcoming album, Horizons/West, which will be available on October 3 through Epitaph Records. The band teamed up with Sean Stout to create a stunning visualizer for the song, featuring light breaking through darkness, swaying wheat, and falling ash.
Dustin Kensrue shared his thoughts on the song, saying, “We can take the very thing the world has offered us as a token of hope and good luck and destroy it. In that way, we often create our own ill omens. Thankfully, it’s not always too late to reverse those same curses.” “Albatross” follows their earlier release, “Gnash,” giving fans another glimpse of their new music.
The band recorded Horizons/West at New Grass Studios, building on ideas from their 2021 album, Horizons/East. Scott Evans mixed the tracks, while Matthew J. Barnhart handled the final touches. The album features 11 songs, including “Blackout,” “Undertow,” “Holding On,” and “Distant Suns.” Kensrue explained that much of the record is about understanding reality in a world influenced by algorithms and social echo chambers.
Since the late 1990s, Thrice has blended punk energy with innovative sounds. The lineup includes Kensrue on vocals and guitar, Teppei Teranishi on lead guitar, Eddie Breckenridge on bass, and Riley Breckenridge on drums.
The band will hit the road starting October 17 in San Diego, touring 29 cities across North America. They’ll be joined by Modern Color and Downward, with stops in New York, Toronto, Chicago, and Los Angeles, wrapping up in Anaheim on November 25.
