Tiger Woods Releases Statement Following Not Guilty Plea After DUI Arrest, Says He's Seeking Treatment

Tiger Woods is breaking his silence after his latest DUI arrest last week.

The 50-year-old pro golfer was arrested on Friday (March 27) after a rollover car crash, and was charged with DUI and property damage.

On Tuesday (March 31), Tiger entered a not guilty plea and his attorney filed for a waiver of arraignment, as well as demanding a jury trial. Hours later, the athlete released a statement on social media.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery,” Tiger shared on Instagram story.

“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time. -Tiger,” he added.

Last week, after crashing his Land Rover, Tiger reportedly failed a sobriety test, with the sheriff’s deputy saying he had bloodshot eyes with “extremely dilated pupils.” He did also reportedly tell deputies that he had over 20 operations on his leg and back, which prevented him from being physically able to complete some of the field sobriety tests.

In addition to the charges of driving under the influence with property damage, he is also being charged with refusal to submit to a lawful test.

The court documents from Tuesday’s plea entry say his license has been suspended.
