Tim Commerford Says RATM Won’t Be ‘Sellouts’ That Do Drive-In Shows

Rage Against the Machine had a big reunion tour lined up for 2020, but then the pandemic happened. However, don’t expect the band to do any drive-in shows or limited capacity shows either.

Bassist Tim Commerford was filmed out in public by celebrity gossip site Too Fab and was asked if he heard of a potential timeline of when Rage would get to perform again. Commerford said he wasn’t sure but would comment, “Musicians got kicked to the curb, man. Musicians, barbershops, and gyms. We’re the last ones to go, so like it’s stressful for me just because I look at Rage and go like, ‘F— we rely on an audience’. You go to Rage shows to see the audience as much as to see the band, and we need that.”

Commerford continued, “We’ll never be one of these sellouts that’s gonna go play a drive-in show or play a venue that holds 100,000 people and there’s only 10,000 there. That’s bulls—. Rage will never do that.”

Whenever Rage does come back, however, Commerford says fans can expect “something really special.”

“It was already going to be something really special without getting into it, like we were doing things that we never done before, and we’re all better musicians than we’ve ever been before,” said Commerford. “The music was all time and it was just exciting. It was going to be a really great new version, a new exciting version of Rage, you know?”

The entire clip from Too Fab of Commerford can be viewed on YouTube. Be warned: There’s some NSFW language ahead, as well as some hot conspiracy theory talk from Commerford. For example, he doesn’t believe in Presidents (“We live in a military coup in this country.”) He also believes the U.S. and the world are actually run by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
