Tom Morello is a pro-union guy. He’s shown his support for a number of unions, particularly when they’ve been on strike. Most recently, he’s appeared on the picket line multiple times in support of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. (His 99-year-old mother has even joined him on the line to support the striking film and television writers!)

Morello’s latest union support happened on August 25 when he joined a rally to support Equity Strippers – North Hollywood. This union represents workers at the North Hollywood Star Garden Topless Dive Bar. This establishment is now the only unionized strip club in the United States. Per KABC-TV, the club celebrated its grand re-opening after over a year of being shut down due to the dancer’s union organizing efforts. The dancers decided to form a union after they felt management wasn’t taking their concerns about their safety seriously.

Morello noted a number of other unions showed up at the Star Garden rally to support the unionized dancers’ win. Among them were the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, the Teamsters, the United Farm Workers and more.

Morello further noted the owners of the Star Garden “are still doing very shady things.” This includes removing the ATM inside the club. Equity Strippers – North Hollywood addressed this via Instagram, saying, “We learned last night that the club is now CASHLESS! There is also no longer an ATM! So, we are encouraging our supporters to bring cash with them to the club to tip the unionized dancers on stage!”

Some of the dancers’ remarks about the labor victory can be heard below. You can offer your support for Equity Strippers – North Hollywood by buying some of their merch at StarGardenDancers.com. Additionally, the unionized dancers are raising funds to help buy their own establishment where management will be union-friendly. You can donate to that fund via DonorBox.org.
