This week DNM was invited to an intimate night with Tom Morello, legendary guitarist for Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, The Night Watchmen and Prophets of Rage. Tom sat down with Pierre Robert from 93.3 WMMR in Philly for a 40 minute Q&A about his life and rise of his and RATM’s music career.
If you didn’t know, Morello is a Harvard grad who got his start in politics working for Senator Alan Cranston (D-CA). Once he realized he couldn’t tell people his real feelings about certain issues he decided politics was not the place for him and rock and roll was a much better place to do just that. After the Q&A, Morello played his new solo album “The Atlas Underground” from in its entirety coming back to the stage in between each song to give the details of who he collaborated with and a little bit of what each song was about. Morello then came back out to play “The Ghost of Tom Joad” a song he played many times when he toured with Bruce Springsteen. He then invited all the fans in attendance to join him on stage with an acoustic sing-a-long of “This Land Is Your Land.” He ended the show by playing RATM’s “Killing In The Name Of” accompanied by a backing track and letting the fans sing the words.
