Tool Engages in Discussions for 2027 Las Vegas Sphere Residency While Band Prepares New Album

Tool is in talks with the Las Vegas Sphere for a possible residency in 2027, which would align with new music from the band. Drummer Danny Carey confirmed this in a recent video interview. The band is currently working on their first album since 2019’s *Fear Inoculum*, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Carey mentioned, “We’re hoping when we release a new record to maybe do a stint at Sphere, because I think we’d be a perfect band for that. We’ve been talking to those guys.” The goal is to have new Tool songs ready for release in 2027.

Preparing for a show at the Sphere involves meeting the venue’s high standards, especially its impressive 16k video screen resolution. Carey noted, “The preparation is definitely intense to get everything up to those standards. It’s a very expensive endeavor, and it takes a while to get into the black. I think it’s quite a few shows before you make any money, but it would be worth it.”

While Carey has toured the 17,600-capacity venue, he hasn’t seen a show there yet. He admitted he “almost got vertigo” while looking around the facility.

*Fear Inoculum* marked Tool’s third consecutive chart-topping album after a long wait since 2006’s *10,000 Days*. The Sphere opened in September 2023 with a U2 residency, and other artists like Phish, Dead & Company, Eagles, Kenny Chesney, Backstreet Boys, and Zac Brown Band have performed there. No Doubt and Carin Leon are also set to take the stage later this year.

Additionally, Metallica is reportedly considering a residency at the Sphere for 2027, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
