True-Crime Documentary ‘Kill. Bury. Print.’ Explores Oklahoma Newspaper’s Fight Against Local Police Corruption

Directed by Ben Klein, the film on the Willingham family and the McCurtain Gazette is now streaming on Peacock.

The new true-crime documentary Kill. Bury. Print., directed by Ben Klein, is now streaming on Peacock. The film focuses on the family-owned McCurtain Gazette newspaper in Idabel, Oklahoma, following publisher Bruce Willingham and reporter Chris Willingham as they report on and face backlash from the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Department.

The conflict began in 2018 when Chris Willingham wrote articles alleging department malfeasance under Sheriff Kevin Clardy. Five years later, in 2023, Bruce Willingham released secretly recorded audio of Clardy and county officials suggesting they kill and bury the journalists. Klein spent three and a half years documenting the Willingham family and local community members facing intimidation. The film will be presented with the 2026 David Carr Award for Truth in Non-Fiction Filmmaking at the Montclair Film Festival on October 17.
