U2’s Bono and The Edge took the stage at the grand opening of the Barack Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18, 2026. They performed “City of Blinding Lights” right after a speech by former First Lady Michelle Obama. Joining them was producer Jacknife Lee.
As the song wrapped up, Bono playfully sang about performing in front of Presidents Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, who were all in the audience. He also included a nod to the Obamas, mentioning “44 and family,” as Malia and Sasha Obama were present too. Bono finished the performance with a sweet tribute, singing “Michelle ma belle,” a line from The Beatles’ song “Michelle.”
The event featured other big names too, including Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Common, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, The Roots, and Tems. It was a memorable night filled with great music and celebration.
