U2 has just released a new EP titled “Easter Lily,” and guitarist The Edge shared some thoughts about it in their fanzine, Propaganda. He explained that the songs for this EP were originally meant for their upcoming album but started to take on a life of their own. “They demanded special attention,” he said, noting that they felt separate from the album. The band decided to embrace this and release the EP in line with Easter, which is 40 days after Ash Wednesday.
The Edge emphasized that the songs are in charge, saying, “You have to do what they say or they’ll abandon you for someone else.” He described the songs on both “Easter Lily” and the earlier EP “Days of Ash” as having a purpose and a connection. While “Days of Ash” reflects their reactions to the world around them, “Easter Lily” focuses more on their inner thoughts and personal strength.
The fanzine also features an interview with U2’s producer, Jacknife Lee. He mentioned that the band is rediscovering their chemistry in the studio. “They’re finding their power as a group again,” he said. Lee believes this is an exciting time for U2, noting that they sound more energized than they have in years. Fans can look forward to more music from the band as they continue to work on their upcoming album.
