Verve Records Relaunches ‘Verve Remixed’ Series

Verve Records has relaunched its Verve Remixed series after 12 years.

Verve Remixed: The Hits gathers 20 classic tracks from the series’ catalog, including songs from Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, and Astrud Gilberto. Remixes come from the likes of Diplo, Toro Y Moi, Masters At Work, Felix Da Housecat, Bassnectar, Postal Service, Jaffa and Gotan. The album also closes with an all-new remix, a reimagining of Billie Holiday’s “You Go To My Head” by Henry Green. The melancholic producer and singer-songwriter Green has collaborated throughout his career with artists like Kygo, Christian Loffler, and more. He’s also done plenty of remixes, but none quite so high-profile as the iconic Holiday. His take on the song is warm and enveloping, mirroring the song’s love-struck lyrics.

The Verve Remixed series debuted back in 2002, inviting top DJs and producers to choose songs they’d like to remix from Verve’s vaults, exposing younger generations of listeners to classic jazz and blues music in a new way. Verve, which launched as a label in 1956, has worked with the likes of Louis Armstrong, Roy Ayers, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Jon Batiste, and more.

The new hits compilation is technically the eighth installment in the Verve Remixed catalog. Past editions have featured remixes from the likes of Moodymann, DJ Premier, Flume, The Orb, Mr. Scruff and more. Each remix album came paired with a companion record, Verve Unmixed, which contained all the featured songs in their original form.
