Verve Unveils A New Nina Simone Compilation ‘Four Women: Complete Recordings 1964-1967’

Verve Records has released Four Women: The Nina Simone Complete Recordings 1964-1967. In honor of what would have been Nina Simone’s 90th birthday, Verve has meticulously curated this limited-edition vinyl boxed set that celebrates the legendary Nina Simone’s most prolific period, highlighting her timeless contribution to jazz.

The years 1964 to 1967 marked the pinnacle of Nina Simone’s illustrious career, and “Four Women” is a testament to that remarkable period. This deluxe seven-LP collection includes all seven albums Nina Simone recorded for Philips between 1964 and 1967, each remastered and cut by Kevin Reeves from the original analog tapes. The albums featured are Nina Simone in Concert (1964); Broadway-Blues-Ballads (1964) that features the first LP release of the track “A Monster;” I Put A Spell On You (1965); Pastel Blues (1965); Let It All Out (1966); Wild Is the Wind (1966); and High Priestess of Soul (1967).

The boxed set is not only a sonic masterpiece but also a visual delight. It includes an 18-page booklet filled with rare photos and liner notes penned by the distinguished Grammy Award-winning music historian, Ashley Kahn. The LPs are housed in an elegantly designed faux-alligator hardcover slipcase, enhancing the overall collectible appeal.

Four Women: The Nina Simone Complete Recordings 1964-1967 is a musical journey through a pivotal era in Nina Simone’s career. From the powerful protest anthem “Mississippi Goddam” to the heart-wrenching “Lilac Wine” and the title track “Four Women,” this collection showcases the artist at the peak of her creative powers.

The release is part of a year-long celebration of Simone to mark what would have been her 90th birthday. The campaign, titled Happy Birthday, Miss Simone, is a rolling invitation to celebrate the unique artist’s renowned career and her enduring impact across music, fashion, and more.

Among the highlights of the program are the first-ever official video for her timeless version of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell on You”; a new greatest hits compilation; immersive Dolby Atmos mixes of her entire UMG catalog; and an audiophile-grade vinyl pressing of Wild Is The Wind.
