Watch Julia Michaels Create A Psychological Thriller In ‘All Your Exes’ Music Video

Julia Michaels

Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter Julia Michaels has released the music video for her latest single “All Your Exes,” and the Blythe Thomas-directed visual is quite the psychological thriller.

Making nods to classic films in the genre, like American Psycho and Serial Mom, Michaels plays a vindictive girlfriend on a mission to eliminate all of her boyfriend’s exes.

“I want to live in a world where there’s no exes at all / Like you were waiting for me to be the first thing you fall for / The only girl that’s ever been in your bed / I want to live in a world where all your exes are dead,” she sings in a seething tone as she invites her partner’s former lovers over under the guise of a friendly dinner.

The occasion takes a bloody turn, with a baseball here and a chainsaw there, but Michaels is sure to keep up the humor in her role. “I think this is the most fun I’ve ever had making a music video. I’ve never really played a character before, so it was fun to let loose and show a side of me that fans haven’t seen,” she says of the visual. “I feel like we all have those moments in relationships where our minds go to ridiculous places – like clearly, I don’t want to kill your exes, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about it.”

“All Your Exes” will appear on Michaels’ forthcoming debut album out April 30 via Republic Records.

“This album shows another side of me, because for the first time I’ve experienced a new kind of love, one that has been happy and healthy, and the songs reflect that. Oh wow, that sounds gross hearing myself say that, but I’m still excited to share them,” she says.

“All Your Exes” is available now. Listen to it here
