Country music star Josh Turner has shared new music video for “Unsung Hero,” a song from 10th MCA Nashville studio album, This Country Music Thing. Turner’s grandfather, a man of few words who sought even fewer accolades, left a powerful legacy nevertheless.

“In December 2014, all of the Turner family had a get-together at my uncle’s house,” says Turner. “I asked him if he would show me my granddaddy’s medals and papers. When I got to see them, it had a profound effect on me. I was made aware that he was an American hero and no one really knew about what he had been through. It was clear to me that he was the epitome of an unsung hero.

He adds “I wrote “Unsung Hero” on Aug 27, 2015 as a tribute to him. The fact that it ended up on a record 10 years after I had been allowed to see his stuff is mind blowing to me. It’s also an honor to be able to sing about him in this way because I feel like there are so many others just like him that we don’t know about or have taken for granted. I’m excited I get to share images of him in the video of this song and that it will be released on Memorial Day. God bless all of our troops and veterans who have made the sacrifices necessary for us to enjoy the freedoms that we have.”

A native of South Carolina, Josh Turner is no stranger to accolades either. Since his album Long Black Train debuted 22 years ago and was certified with almost 1.5 million album sales in North America, has been nominated for three GMA Dove awards (he won his first in 2021 for “I Saw The Light” featuring Sonya Isaacs, off his I Serve a Savior album) Turner and has been nominated for numerous GRAMMY and CMA Awards, jn addition to receiving six Inspirational Country Music Awards. In addition, in 2023 he was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in his home State of South Carolina, the highest civilian honor, and was been inducted into the South Carolina Entertainment Hall of Fame (2004).

Turner’s catalog includes timeless songs like “Long Black Train” and “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” and his five No. 1 singles include “Your Man,” of which the official music video surpassed 233 million views. He released his first Greatest Hits album in fall of 2023 and is currently crisscrossing America on This Country Music Thing Tour, in support of his recent album of the same name, issued by MCA Nashville in August 2024.
