What Makes Three Days Grace’s Singles Highly Suitable for Radio Play

Three Days Grace is one of those special bands that has consistently delivered rock radio hits. In January 2025, they scored their 19th No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with their active rock single, “Apologies.” This track marked their second consecutive No. 1, following the success of “Mayday,” which topped the charts for five weeks. Even after more than two decades since their formation, Three Days Grace is still going strong.

Both “Apologies” and “Mayday” feature the band’s two vocalists: original singer Adam Gontier and Matt Walst, who joined in 2013. Before joining Three Days Grace, Walst was the frontman for My Darkest Days. As of January 2025, the band is just one No. 1 away from tying the record for the most in Mainstream Rock Airplay history.

Three Days Grace formed in 1992 in Ontario, Canada, and they’ve been rocking together ever since. So, what makes their songs so popular?

Let’s take a look at one of their early hits, “Just Like You.” This song, from their 2003 self-titled debut album, quickly climbed the rock charts. Its straightforward post-grunge sound, catchy chorus, and memorable riffs make it a favorite among listeners.

Many of the band’s hits share common themes that resonate with young people. Their lyrics often reflect the struggles of adolescence, making them relatable to teenagers and young adults trying to find their identity.

In short, it’s the combination of catchy melodies and relatable lyrics that keeps Three Days Grace at the forefront of rock music. This winning formula shows no signs of fading away anytime soon.
