Wolfgang Van Halen Blasts TMZ Over Their Reporting of Matthew Perry’s Death

Wolfgang Van Halen is taking issue with TMZ over their coverage of the death of actor Matthew Perry.

Wolfgang shared via X (formerly Twitter), “Daily reminder that TMZ is scum.” That message was a comment on a post he reshared, which read, “TMZ taking pictures of Matthew Perry’s parents arriving at the house is without exaggeration Nightcrawler level psychopathy.”

The rocker followed that up by resharing another post. This one read, “When the news broke about Matthew Perry’s death, it wasn’t in the public record yet. TMZ paid a law enforcement officer for the leak. Many people who knew him most likely found out that he died through social media. Despicable.”

Wolfgang commented in response to this post, “They paid off people in the hospital when my father passed. Couldn’t even f—ing grieve for 20 minutes. Like I said… scum.”

Back in December 2020, Wolfgang also called TMZ “scum” when the tabloid released details about Eddie Van Halen’s death certificate.

After someone took issue with Wolfgang’s comment, he replied, “Oh get f—ed AND blocked. I’ve got every right in the world to call people scum who release private information about my family. F— them and f— you…If you f— with my family, especially my father who is unable to defend himself, you f— with me. It’s my job to do so now and I’ll never stop. So if you’ve got a problem with that, you can either learn how to get over it or unfollow me.”

Wolfgang’s Latest Tribute to His Father

Wolfgang recently married his longtime girlfriend, Andraia Allsop, in an intimate ceremony at their Los Angeles home on October 15.

Wolfgang was walked down the aisle by his mother, actress Valerie Bertinelli, but his late father, Eddie Van Halen, was present, too. The music playing while mother and son walked down the aisle was “316,” an instrumental track off of Van Halen’s 1991 album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. Wolfgang told People his father wrote the instrumental for him. With the track, Wolfgang noted, “It’ll be a nice way to include my dad.”
