Wolfgang Van Halen rickrolls crowd at April Fools’ concert

Wolfgang Van Halen had some fun with fans on April Fools’ Day during a concert in Cincinnati. The Mammoth frontman took the stage and started with a serious-sounding introduction. “I always said never say never,” he said. “I don’t know if I’m gonna keep doing this, maybe this can just be our little secret. But I think there’s some people out there that deserve this, and I think it could be really fun.”

Many in the crowd might have expected a tribute to his late father, Eddie Van Halen, but Wolf surprised everyone by launching into Rick Astley’s classic hit, “Never Gonna Give You Up.” After finishing the chorus, he wished the audience a happy April Fools’ Day and then introduced the actual next song, “Don’t Back Down” from Mammoth’s latest album.

Wolf even played the intro to “Never Gonna Give You Up” two more times before finally moving on to “Don’t Back Down.” He shared a clip of the moment on Instagram, captioning it, “A serious talk in Cincinnati this evening.”

Wolf is currently on tour promoting Mammoth’s 2025 album, The End, and is also opening for Bush on this leg of the tour. Fans can look forward to more surprises as he continues to perform.
