Yungblud is set to release the second part of his double album, IDOLS, soon. The UK artist, whose real name is Dom Harrison, promises a more stripped-down sound compared to the first half, which came out in June. Both parts were produced by Andrew Watt.
The opening track of the new release is called “I Need You to Make the World Seem Fine.” It features the lyrics: “Pictures of idols rise up and fall / Wish you knew it all / Lift your head from the pillow, you’ve been missing enough / Built yourself a wall.”
Harrison describes the first part of the album as a journey of self-reclamation and learning to fly. He explains that the second part dives into the realities of life after discovering oneself. “It’s a little bit more cynical,” he says.
This time, Yungblud wants to move away from the big, flashy sound of part one. He aims for a vibe that feels more like a live band. He and Watt might even skip using a click track while recording. Harrison has been inspired by artists like Jeff Buckley, Chris Cornell, and Scott Weiland, channeling the spirit of ’90s MTV Unplugged performances.
He contrasts the two parts of the album, saying, “Part one is about reclaiming yourself. Part two is about the darker side of life and realizing that we’re not here forever. It’s about who you want to spend your time with and facing mortality.”
Recently, Harrison collaborated with The Smashing Pumpkins for a new version of one of his songs. Fans can check out the first part of IDOLS and grab tickets for Yungblud’s upcoming tour dates.
