Yusuf/Cat Stevens Announces Memoir

Yusuf/Cat Stevens is ready to tell his story. The beloved singer-songwriter’s long-awaited memoir, Cat On The Road To Findout, will be out this fall. The book arrives Sept. 18 in the UK through Constable and Oct. 7 in North America via Genesis Publications.

In Cat On The Road To Findout, the London native—born Steven Demetre Georgiou and now known as Yusuf Islam—will trace his musical and spiritual path, taking readers behind the scenes of the most pivotal moments of his life. In the ‘60s and ‘70s, the folk-rocker established himself as one of the premier voices in modern music via songs like “Matthew and Son,” “The First Cut Is the Deepest,” “Wild World,” “Peace Train,” “Morning Has Broken,” “Oh Very Young,” “Moonshadow,” “Another Saturday Night,” and more. His 1977 conversion to Islam set him on an entirely new trajectory but did not slow him down creatively or dim the enthusiasm of the millions who revered his music.

“I’ve been on an amazing journey,” Yusuf/Cat Stevens says, “which began in the narrow streets of London, and led me through the most iconic cities, to perform upon the great stage of Western culture, ascending the dizzying heights of wealth, recognition and artistic pinnacles; freely exploring vast ranges of religions and philosophies, wandering through churches, temples, all the way to the Holy abode in Jerusalem — ignoring myths and warnings — and crossing the foreboded, desert heartlands, to arrive at the House of One God in Abrahamic Arabia. What finally elevated my perspective was a luminous Book that perfectly alchemized my thoughts, beliefs, with human nature. It taught me Oneness, and my place and purpose within the universe.”

Cat On The Road To Findout will be published in several formats including hardback, ebook, and an audiobook narrated by Yusuf/Cat Stevens himself. He’ll be heading out on a book tour to promote the autobiography later this year; the itinerary for the tour will be announced at a later date.
