Starting July 30, Universal Music Japan will release 20 albums from Aerosmith. Each album will feature extra tracks and mini-LP paper sleeves. This is the first big release since the band joined Universal Music Group in August 2021, which led to their Greatest Hits album in August 2023.
The music will be released in four waves. The first wave includes seven albums from their time with Columbia Records. Fans can look forward to classics like Aerosmith I (1973), Get Your Wings (1974), and Toys In The Attic (1975). For the first time, band members have chosen rare tracks for each album.
Steven Tyler shared, “As good as I am, I’m nothing without my band.” Joe Perry also mentioned plans to collaborate with Tyler in the future.
The second wave will feature four albums from Geffen Records released between 1985 and 1993. The third wave will include their return to Columbia from 1997 to 2012, while the final wave will consist of five live recordings, including Live! Bootleg (1978) and Rockin’ The Joint (2005).
Sound expert Ryan Smith remastered the first seven albums in 2013. These new versions will keep the original U.S. artwork and add Japanese obi strips from early prints. Plus, buyers at Tower Records will receive a special A4 clear file featuring art by Sumiko Arai.
Exciting new finds include raw takes of “Movin’ Out” and “Write Me A Letter.” Fans will also hear a never-before-released version of “Walkin’ The Dog” on the first album. Get Your Wings will include live cuts from a wild Texas show in 1978 and a rare performance from 1971.
This release builds on the band’s Greatest Hits album from 2023, which celebrated their top songs over five decades.
